We breed to a higher standard because they are our family to. We have taken some of the courses at the Institute of Canine Biology and studied genetics and disease. The study of COI and so much more.
What is COI in dog breeding?
COI stands for Coefficient Of Inbreeding and is the calculation used to determine the level of inbreeding on an individual dog or puppy. The higher the number for COI the closer the dog or puppy was inbred. A very low COI reflects that that dog or puppy was "out cross" meaning the parents of the dog or puppy. It is believed lower COI means higher chance for health and long life. We breed with this in mind. It is another piece to the puzzle while trying to stay true to the breed.
